Homegrown deliver app Favor is gonna court the Austin public tomorrow with free Tacodeli breakfast tacos. When users open the Favor app on Tuesday between 9 and 11 a.m., a Free Taco banner will appear. Tap that and it’s off to the races. There is a limit of two tacos per person, either migas or potato egg and cheese, and there is a limited supply.
Given Favor’s higher delivery fee than UberEats and and the addition of a substantial driver ip that accompanies each order on normal days, it appears Favor is trying to curry, um, favor with local users.
Verts has exploded since it opened its first location five years ago. The fast-casual Mediterranean restaurant now has more than 30 locations across Texas, is expanding to the East Coast this fall and hired former Alamo Drafthouse and Fino chef Jason Donoho to oversee culinary operations.
To celebrate its fifth anniversary, Verts will give away one free, full-size entrée to each guest from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. at all Austin, San Antonio, and San Marcos locations. Additionally, the first 25 guests at each location get a bag full of Verts swag.
Austin’s 41-year-old sandwich institution is hooking up moms on Mother’s Day. Buy a sub at any of ThunderCloud location on Sunday and get one sub of equal or lesser value for free. There are no details on how the Austin-born sandwich makers will determine the veracity of the claim of motherhood.
Union Square Hospitality Group’s Shake Shack is giving away hamburgers (ShackBurger or Lockhart Link Burger, you choose) and t-shirts to the first 50 customers on May 5 to celebrate its birthday. There’s also gonna be a special birthday cake concrete available for guests, but who cares. It’s all about that free meat. May as well cue up now, cause that event is gonna be stupid crowded.
Colorado-based Mad Greens begins its move into the Austin market with the opening of its location at Rock Rose at the Domain (3100 Esperanza Crossing). To celebrate the first of their five upcoming Austin-area locations, Mad Greens will host a Free Salad Day on Thursday, giving away one free regular size salad, with choice of protein, and a free drink from 10:30 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Since the food is free, Mad Greens is encouraging guests to donate money on site to Austin’s Sustainable Food Center (SFC).

VertsKebap continues its rapid expansion Saturday with a new location at 500 Canyon Ridge Drive. Diners showing up for the grand opening event from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. will get one, free entrée. Verts will also raffle off eight $25 gift cards. One hundred percent of Saturday’s sales will benefit the Settlement Home for Children. This is the 13th Austin-area Verts and 28th in Texas.
