I’ve had the best barbecue Austin has to offer; now it’s time to go see what the rest of our brothers and sisters around the great state of Texas are up to. After some online research, aided by my friend and the Dean of Texas Barbecue writers, Daniel Vaughn at Texas Monthly, I’ve settled on a schedule. The six-day journey will take me from the Gulf Coast to Houston, then up to the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, down through Central Texas and out to the Hill Country, hitting about three spots a day (with kale salads and juice in between stops). The idea isn’t about rankings – it’s about exploration, discovery, eating some great barbecue and meeting some fascinating folks.

I’ll be tweeting (@Odam), Instagramming (@matthewodam) and posting photos, videos and words here daily. I’ll also be livestreaming video once a day via Facebook Live on the Austin360 Facebook page, so make sure you like that page, and we’ll have a map of the journey (here) that will allow you to follow along 0r track me down to eat lunch.

While I have my eye on about 20 places, I want to hear from you, as well. Leave a comment or hit me with a tweet to let me know where you think I should stop along the way. I also want your tips on any great dive bars, ice houses, giant balls of twine or any other must-see spots along the way.
